This Week in Mischief-Making…

I was 8 years old when the movie Terms of Endearment was released.

As most of you know, Debra Winger’s character battles cancer in the film and the movie had a powerful and lasting impact on me.

It was the first time I really thought about what would happen if my mom died.  I not only understood the point-of-view of the children in the film, but on a deep and intuitive level, I felt how painful it would be for a mom to have to say goodbye to her children. This tore me up inside as a child and still affects me today. In fact, it’s the movie I pull out whenever I want to cry (I know you know what I’m talkin’ about!)

Now, as a mom myself, my brain goes to that ‘what if’ place more often than I’d like to admit.

What if that happened to me? What would happen to my little guy? What if it ruined his life? …what if?…what if?

I know we all have those moments where our brains go there and usually we can blow it off. But once my dear friend Padma, passed away a few years ago from cancer before her 40th birthday, the gremlins in my brain took over.  I was destroyed by Padma’s death.  I still overflow with emotion about it from time to time.  I miss her and I’m angry she is gone.  And, I am afraid of cancer.

One of the big bright flashes of light and hope out there in the cancer world is Chris Wark. His groundbreaking cancer healing program, Square One, has changed the lives of thousands. His interview is one of my favorites as Chris shares openly what it looks like to grow a thriving wellness practice behind the scenes – the triumphs and the tears. Chris shares one of the most true portrayals of the wellness industry I’ve ever read and if you’re a health blogger, expert, coach or wellness practitioner, you’ll want to read his advice NOW.

This is a bit more of a “personal” letter from the editor than you’re used to getting from me…but I really feel the need to share as it could save your life (or someone you love).

And not wanting to live out Terms of Endearment myself, I am even more committed to being and staying healthy.

This is why I’m dedicating two full issues to the people out there who are changing the face of healthcare and the wellness industry. We’ve got stand-out leaders like Chris Wark (cancer), Dr. Kelly Brogan (anxiety/depression), Kiran Krishnan (gut health) plus many more including business experts with top tips to help your health practice thrive.

Take heed of their advice…and your health.

Mischiefly yours,

Jen
