This Month in Mischief Making. . .
I sat in a hospital waiting room in 1996 watching Food Network’s most recent star, Chef Mario Batali, as I awaited news on my grandma’s condition.
Watching his bright orange clogs move artfully around his studio kitchen in front of a poster of Italy, gave me a lot of solace.
I had just returned from a college trip to Italy a few months before, and listening to Mario Batali’s voice as he spoke about the hidden gems of Italy coupled with the sound of his tongs dancing around numerous pots and pans lulled me; providing a much needed respite from the stress at hand.
For me, Italy is always the remedy. The vivacious culture, incredible architecture, innovative fashion, art, music, and profoundly delicious cuisine contains the cure. Whatever ails you – in love, life, business – Italy has the answer.
It’s where I go when I need clarity, nourishment and to find myself again. It was my first true love. I can’t remember any passion so deep before it…and I find my way back every year to reconnect to its magic.
